Victorian Rutilated Quartz Fan Brooch

Victorian Rutilated Quartz Fan Brooch

This is an amazing example of how the Victorians used the materials and shapes together. Rutilated quartz is often called 'hair crystal' because of its natural inclusions. This case, the quartz organically formed some feather-like inclusions. With the motif of ostrich feather fan that was loved and used quite often in Victorian period, the 'fan'-shaped brooch was created. Set in high karat yellow gold (15k). It is truly one of a kind and a magnificent piece. C.1850-1860. Found in London.
