Victorian Snake Locket Gold Bangle

Victorian Snake Locket Gold Bangle

C.1871. A striking Victorian snake locket gold bangle. The center locket opens and reveals an adorable miniature portrait painting of a young girl. The bangle is 15k gold, and has the original English Diamond registration mark behind the locket. During the period of 1842 to 1883, the British Patent Office issued a diamond-shaped mark along with the registration number when a design was registered. It was to protect the design from copying, to identify the type of material used, and the date of registration. The registration mark of this bangle shows 'A' for the year of 1871, 'C' for the month of January, and '27' for the date. The center mark of ‘R’ is the abbreviation for ‘Registered’. The hinge is secure, and shuts firmly; extra safety closure attached. Some minor dents and surface wear are shown. Overall in good condition.
