A strikingly constructed serpent necklace, dated to early 20th century. The textured serpent’s flexible body/chain goes through the triple-coiled tail, and the head/pendant screws into the chain. The handsome snake’s head has garnet paste eyes and a beautifully faceted large amethyst paste on its head. It also has a dangling gold drop from the head looking like the snake’s tongue. The necklace comfortably wears off the neck for an average neck sized person. This piece is gold-filled. Signs of wear are shown in a few areas of the outer side of the chain, on each tip, and the coiled area. The amethyst paste has a chipped area on the edge, but because of multiple facets, it is hardly noticeable. The pendant/head is in good condition. The necklace has substantial weight feel, and definitely a hard to come by snake piece.
