C.1826. A fine quality Georgian mourning brooch with 18k gold and black enamel in an antique brooch case. The center locket, containing woven hair, is decorated with gold leafy scrolls around its frame and black enamel between the inner and outer gold rim. The brooch has a C-clasp that works perfectly. On the back is a beautiful inscription: ‘In memory of Kenneth Mackenzie of Dundonnell died 15, April 1826 Aged 36’. The brooch shows an ‘A.C.W’ maker’s mark along with an 18k gold and Edinburgh hallmark.
Though some scratches appear on the glass surface, the enamel is intact, and the brooch shows a rich yellow gold color. Overall the brooch is in great condition.
Approximately 25mm x 20mm.
