1821. Georgian Chalcedony Swivel Mourning Ring

Poignant and Endearing... 1821. A late Georgian intaglio swivel mourning ring. The ring is 15k gold, and a semi translucent white chalcedony shows carvings on both sides - 'THE ARK IS THY REST' with a bird over the sea, and 'HENRY GRACE SPERLING 11 JULY 1821 AGED 28'. Henry Grace Sperling was born in Essex, England on 18 July, 1792 to Henry Piper Sperling (1768 - 1847) and Sarah Ann Grace (1770 - 1850). Henry Grace Sperling was a rector of Papworth St. Agnes, and married Mary Wilson and had one child. He passed away on 11 July 1821. This mourning ring for H.G.S has been preserved in very good condition without any major damage to the stone. It is one of the most intriguing mourning rings we've had.
