C.1840. Blue Enamel and Diamond 'LOVE' Locket

C.1840. Blue Enamel and Diamond 'LOVE' Locket

An utterly endearing blue enamel and gold locket from the 1840s, this is a piece we were instantly captivated by. Its unique design and deeply personal symbolism truly set it apart.

The three motifs on this locket represent a beautiful love token. A pansy flower, from the French word penser (to think), is a symbol of "remembrance" or "thinking of you." Alongside it, a key and a heart convey the timeless sentiment, "you hold the key to my heart." These enchanting motifs are crafted from rose-cut diamonds set in silver, giving the locket a subtle, antique sparkle.

The deep royal blue enamel work is in immaculate condition, and the gold feels rich and warm. The gold content tests between 15k and 18k throughout. The locket opens and closes securely with a satisfying click, revealing two empty compartments with their glass covers intact. The bail/top loop appears to be original and matches the gold. This medium-sized locket has been beautifully preserved and is ready to hold your own cherished mementos.
