A special 19th-century French locket, adorned with diamonds and pearls. Its playful design, reminiscent of a tic-tac-toe grid, presents a distinctly clever aesthetic. Crafted in 18k yellow gold, the rose-cut diamonds exhibit a captivating shimmer, beautifully complemented by three lustrous pearls of consistent size, shape, and a very subtly cool tone. The locket's scale creates a bold visual presence, yet it maintains a sophisticated simplicity, while its pleasing substantiality feels rich in hand. The locket features a concealed compartment, currently empty. Bearing a French eagle's head hallmark for 18k gold and an illegible maker's mark near the loop, this piece retains its original bail. Overall condition is very good, displaying a natural gold patina and minor surface scratches consistent with its age and use.
