19th Century Carved Coral Cherry Brooch

19th Century Carved Coral Cherry Brooch

An utterly endearing 19th century carved coral brooch. The brooch is in the shape of two plump cherries with four small leaves. Created from a single piece of coral, the carving is fine and realistic. We also fell in love with the back of the brooch, which is designed with eight cut-out hearts. For centuries, coral has been considered as an amulet to bring protection and make the negative energy disappear. This piece is a perfect talisman, as cherries also symbolize prosperity, success and fortune. This 19th century coral cherry is most likely Chinese in origin, and the 18k gold back panel with a clasp is set in the mid 20th century. The clasp is secure and in good working order, and it has a double locking mechanism for extra security. This brooch is undoubtedly crafted by a skilled jeweler. It is beautifully made, and has been preserved in very good condition.
