C.1860. A superior quality Italian Grand Tour souvenir, Etruscan revival bulla locket and a chain set. The locket features Helios, the Greek God of the Sun on one side, and 'LVX' ('LUX'), the Latin word for 'Light', rendered in raised rubies on the other. The rubies, consistently colored and sized with a vibrant 'pigeon blood' hue, are meticulously set around the edges and along with the granulation work on the upper portion. The set is completed with a substantial, expertly woven rope chain and a matching clasp. This push-in clasp is also detailed with coordinating gold granulations and rope work, accented by a table-cut ruby. Inside, the locket retains its original bezeled glass and a fragment of silk fabric. It opens and closes in good working order, and stays securely put when closed. The gold tests 18k-22k both for the locket and the chain.
This beautifully preserved set shows no loss to its gold details or granulations and remains in excellent condition with a natural gold patina.
