Early 19th Century French Charm Pendant

Early 19th Century French Charm Pendant

A rare and curious French charm pendant dated to the early to mid 19th century. This little figure, 'Polichinelle' is made of 18k gold decorated with colorful polychrome enamel and a natural baroque pearl for his torso. We love his blue stockings, green arms and the red bottom that create a colorful combination and an accent with the pearl. Polichinelle is one of the classical characters of the masquerade. It originated in commedia dell'arte of the 17th century, and became an archetypal figure in Neapolitan puppetry. This pendant is fully articulated with moving arms and legs. This well-constructed piece is now ready to be worn with a chain. The last image shows the painting of 'Polichinelle, 1874' by Edouard Manet at National Gallery of Art.

Total Drop: Approximately 1.25"  (with the top bail)

*The chain is for display. The last two images show our Georgian hand fob pendant together. This listing is for the 'Polichinelle' charm only.
