A heavy and very chic 18k gold signet ring featuring an ancient Roman carnelian intaglio. The carved intaglio depicts Mercury, the Roman god of trade, luck, and safe passage, standing beside a pillar topped with an offering vessel. The figure is shown wearing his iconic winged petasos cap while holding a sacred rooster in his outstretched hand- his primary animal attribute, herald of the new day and a symbol of sharp intuition. Historically, this classic motif served as a wearable talisman crafted to bring prosperity, keen insight, and protection to its owner.

The intaglio is set within a striking square stepped design, flanked by bold, architectural shoulders. Weighing a substantial 19.4 grams, the ring has a wonderfully tactile presence on the hand and a cool, unisex appeal.

The carnelian intaglio dates to the Roman Imperial period (1st century BC – 2nd century AD), housed in a custom-crafted one-of-a-kind gold setting from circa 1950s–1960s. Discovered in France, the setting is believed to be of French goldsmithing, though its original hallmarks were lost during past resizing. Preserved in beautiful condition with a rich, warm patina in gold and no major damage to the stone, it remains a standout piece.
