C.1680. Early Stuart Crystal Black Enamel Ring

C.1680. Early Stuart Crystal Black Enamel Ring

An outstanding early Stuart crystal enamel ring. The original gold ciphers with the hint of pink foiling are intact under the clear rock crystal. Finely carved high-domed rose cut crystal is extra chunky, and light reflects beautifully with the facets. The shank is original. And the black enamel in scrolled details and the stripes on the back have been preserved in good antique condition. The 'pie crust' edge has also remained complete without missing any details.
Stuart crystal jewelry was produced in England under the silent support of the monarchy after the execution of King Charles I in 1649. His loyal followers wore Stuart crystal jewelry bearing his initials, miniature portrait or lock of hair. This tradition continued into the 18th century also into forms of marriage or mourning pieces. This ring is crafted in 15k gold, and overall in great condition.
