An exceptional Victorian 'Bishop of Lincoln' ring. The banded agate has a carved 'leaping lion' with the words of 'MOBILIS IRA'; Leaping lion traditionally symbolizes strength, bravery and nobility. A lion also symbolizes the power of God and protection against the evil spirits, and often connotes the courage and determination of the souls which they guard. 'MOBILIS IRA', the Latin words, translate into 'fleet wrath'. The ring has a secret locket compartment on the back of the center stone, and it has remained without any memento. The shoulders show the most beautiful black enamel work, and inside, there is the inscription 'John Kaye D.D Lord Bishop of Lincoln ob. feb. 18. 1853' with full English hallmarks - London, 18ct (18k gold), 1852.
