An enchanting and truly unique early 20th-century French enamel pendant. We were captivated by it at first glance as we haven't seen another quite like it.

Generous in scale and beautifully crafted, the piece features a cornflower blue enamel frame composed of distinct geometric shapes: a square plaque, triangular corners, four small circles, and balanced negative/open space. This design perfectly bridges late Art Nouveau sentimentality and early Art Deco geometry. Crisp gold borders add a rich pop of contrast that highlights the soft color palette.

At the center, an oval frame houses a hand-painted landscape in a soft purple enamel. It depicts a peaceful pastoral scene featuring a tall, leafy tree, a boat on a calm river, and a figure seated on the bank—look closely and you can even spot his fishing rod. The opaline-guilloche enamel base glows with shifting hues as it catches the light, giving the entire scene an ethereal, dreamlike quality. The piece is completed by its original bail which is decorated with matching blue enamel and a gold accent line in the center. 

Crafted in 18k yellow gold, the pendant is inscribed on the reverse: 'G. Richet, Sueur (workshop) 1920'. Gaston Richet (Paris, 1879–1965) was a French master enameler active during the early 20th century, particularly around the Art Deco era of the 1920s and 1930s. A prize-winner at the 1937 International Exposition, he also taught at the School of Applied Arts on Rue Dupetit-Thouars in Paris and later collaborated with the renowned jeweler Jean Fouquet on a series of translucent enamel works between 1952 and 1955.

This pendant is a truly striking piece of wearable art, even more captivating in person than in photographs. The soft cornflower blue frame complements the pastel hues harmoniously. While it originally had a brooch fitting as well on the back, it now remains as a pendant. Overall, it is in very good condition and ready to be styled on the chain of your choice.
