C.1860s. French 18k Gold and Banded Agate Suite

C.1860s. French 18k Gold and Banded Agate Suite

C.1860-1870s. An exquisite French 18k gold and banded agate suite, comprising a matching necklace and pair of earrings. The fringe-style necklace is characterized by its meticulous symmetry and fine gold work, featuring beautifully carved banded agate stones that alternate with geometric, torpedo-shaped gold drops. The architectural element of these drops harmonizes elaborately with the intricate details of the floral tops on the agate pendants, while the matching earrings mirror these torpedo drops and floral motifs.

Both the necklace and earrings bear the French double eagle's head hallmark (used in Paris from 1847 onward for .750 gold); the hallmark found on French-made gold pieces and guarantees the item has been tested to a minimum of 18k purity.

The entire suite appears as if it was rarely worn, with the necklace clasp remaining in excellent working order. It is a wonderful, rare treasure for both pieces to have survived together in such pristine condition all these years.

Necklace: Approximately 14.5 inches in length and 1.20 inches in width
