C.1890. A gorgeous set of late Victorian aesthetic movement sterling silver collar with large silver and gold locket.
It is an original matching set, which is fortunate, as with time, the matched set pieces often were separated or damaged, and it has become harder to find one that is in this beautiful quality.
Depicting birds of paradise and sunrise under a Japonisme inspiration, the locket has a diagonal oriental pattern that crosses the locket in a 9k rose color gold applied decoration. Above and below this lined pattern, there are two different islands, with scenes of stork & sparrow, trees, sea and sun. What’s also great about this set is that each sterling collar panel has an engraving of a different bird.
There are minor surface scratches on the back and a very tiny dent on the bottom of the front of the locket that is hardly noticeable. Overall in very good condition: A beautifully preserved set
The length is approximately 18.75" in total including the large bolt clasp.
Chain width measures 5/8” at the widest.
Locket measures approximately 2 5/8” x 1.5” (including the bale)
