C.1880. A gorgeous pair of Victorian carved Whitby jet drop earrings. These masterfully carved earrings are very finely detailed. The top of the earring features a carved oval jet, while the lower portion has a scalloped yellow gold-filled cap atop a much larger tapered piece of Whitby jet that is in a teardrop shape or pendeloque. Even the lower tip of the pendeloque, which can’t be seen unless removed from the ear, is carved like the shape of a rosebud beginning to open. The earring is lightweight (3.9g), and looks very elegant when worn. The earrings now have new 14k gold ear wires.
