A truly stunning Victorian opal, enamel and diamond locket circa 1870s. The high-domed center is embellished with a gorgeous opal that is surrounded by a row of rose cut diamonds and red enamel studs. The edge of the locket has the white and red enamel drops, and the original matching bail continues with the design. Four heart-shaped panels with two granulated beads adorn each direction of north, east, south and west. The reverse side has an open-faced locket, and the compartment remains empty. This piece is a great example that shows exquisite craftsmanship in Victorian archaeological revival style. The locket is made of 15k yellow gold, and overall in excellent condition.
Total Drop: Approximately 55mm or 2.17" (including the bail)
Width: 35mm
*The locket is paired with a substantial 18k ornate 17" chain. (shown at last two photos.)
