C.1870-1880. An exquisite quality Victorian large gold locket. The locket is adorned with luminous natural pearls and small rose cut diamonds in a 'comet' motif design. Was it inspired by the Great Southern Comet of 1880, or was it by the Great Comet in 1882? Perhaps by the most famous Halley's comet? It is obvious that the Victorians admired nature, and got poetic and creative inspirations from it.
The inside of this locket has a photo compartment with a glass cover and silk lining, and the locket opens and shuts properly with a good snap. Crafted in beautiful and rich 18k yellow gold, and the locket is housed in a fitted antique case. And it looks beautiful with a long chain or a medium one with its size. Overall in great condition without any dent or damage.
