C. 1870s. An enchanting and imaginative Victorian gold locket, featuring a large oval silhouette artfully crafted to depict a radiant seashell, set with natural, vibrant turquoise cabochons and luminous natural seed pearls. The crown of the shell is adorned with a pearl-set arched border that frames a bezel-set cushion-shaped old-mine cut diamond weighing approximately 0.33 to 0.35 carat, displaying an estimated H–I color and a crisp VS1–VS2 clarity range. This dazzling diamond harmonizes beautifully with the turquoise and pearls.
The locket is crafted in 18K yellow gold, and the interior retains its original bezel without glass, leaving the compartments empty. The bail is original to the piece, and the locket opens and closes securely with a good click sound. While the reverse of the locket displays a few shallow impressions consistent with its age, overall the whole piece has been preserved in very good condition with a rich, natural patina in gold.
